Understanding Advanced wound care pathways

CarePine's wound care specialty program provides advanced wound management for patients with complex or non-healing wounds that require specialized assessment, treatment protocols, and ongoing monitoring. This program goes beyond routine wound care to address the underlying factors that impede healing and to apply evidence-based interventions that promote tissue recovery.

Complex wounds — including pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, and post-surgical complications — require a systematic approach that combines clinical expertise, appropriate wound care products, nutritional optimization, and patient education.

What the Wound Care Program Provides

The program includes comprehensive wound assessment using standardized measurement tools, advanced dressing selection, debridement when ordered, offloading strategies for pressure wounds, nutritional recommendations to support healing, and coordination with wound care physicians when needed.

Supporting Complex Wound Healing

Follow your nurse's wound care instructions precisely. Maintain adequate nutrition — especially protein intake. Manage blood sugar levels if you have diabetes. Change positions regularly if you have pressure injuries. Keep the wound and surrounding skin clean and protected between visits.

When to Contact Your Care Team

Contact your nurse for signs of infection including increased redness, warmth, drainage, odor, or fever. Report wounds that appear to be getting larger rather than smaller. Seek emergency care for signs of systemic infection — high fever, chills, rapid heartbeat, or confusion.
